October 18, 2025. Monterey, CA. Save the date! Native Daughters of the Golden West - Junipero Parlor 141, invites the community to enjoy a fascinating staged reading by Carol Marquart about local Monterey County history on Monday, November 10, 2025, from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

The presentation will be held at Casa Serrano, a beautiful historic adobe owned by the Monterey History & Art Association, located at 412 Pacific Street in Downtown Monterey.

AN INTERVIEW WITH MRS. ELMARIE DYKE, AKA "MRS. "PACIFIC GROVE"

A Staged Reading by Carol Marquart Starring: Andra McDonald and Fred Bologna.

Elmarie Hurlbert Hyler Dyke (Citizen of the Year in 1975) is giving her first and only television interview on KPEG TV on June 3, 1975. She will offer stories about important people she knew such as Ed Ricketts and Pacific Grove mayor, Julia Platt. Elmarie will also highlight her important civic contributions, which includes but is not limited to, the recreation of The Feast of Lanterns and her willingness to volunteer for just about everything.

Elmarie was the only Junipero Parlor, Statewide Grand President of the Native Daughters of the Golden West.

Included in this interview are Elmarie's opinions and recollections about life in "The Last Home Town," between the years 1913 and 1975.

Don't miss the chance to learn why Elmarie Dyke earned the name, "Mrs. Pacific Grove," and why she knows we will miss her when she is gone.

This reading is about a local woman with so much community spirit that she practically bursts off of the page. Many people still living in the area knew her well.

Established in 1886, the Native Daughters of the Golden West is a non-profit organization of individuals born in California who are dedicated to the preservation of California's history and the social and cultural development of the State. The Native Daughters of the Golden West Foundation contributes to many charitable projects. The Native Daughters of the Golden West also has a Children's Foundation. The organization's Golden West Home in San Francisco is celebrating 92 years on Baker Street.
