Chris Shake and Sabu J.R. Shake, Team Up with Salvation Army of the Monterey Peninsula to Raise Money to Buy Turkeys and Hams for Families in Need for Thanksgiving 

Help Provide Thanksgiving Meals for Local Families: Donate a Turkey or Ham This Holiday Season

November 6, 2025. MONTEREY, CA — This Thanksgiving, the community has the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local families experiencing hardship. Chris Shake and Sabu J.R. Shake are once again partnering with The Salvation Army of the Monterey Peninsula to raise funds to purchase turkeys and hams for families who otherwise may not be able to afford a traditional holiday meal.

Many local families face difficult financial decisions during the holidays. By donating a turkey or ham, community members can ensure that their neighbors have the opportunity to gather around the table and share in the joy of Thanksgiving. Let's work together to make Thanksgiving brighter for every family on the Monterey Peninsula.

A $20 donation purchases a 16–18 lb. turkey or ham, and donating is quick and easy. To contribute, call (831) 372-2406 or email Adminfh@fishhopper.com. Checks and credit cards are accepted. The Shakes will coordinate the purchase and delivery of every turkey or ham to local families, which will be distributed through The Sabu Shake, Sr. Good Samaritan Center.

To honor donors, every contributor's name will appear in a special published "Thank You" advertisement.

In 2024, Chris Shake and Sabu J.R. Shake—owners of Old Fisherman's Grotto, The Fish Hopper Monterey, and The Fish Hopper Kona (Hawaii)—raised an impressive $46,810, which supplied more than 2,340 turkeys and hams, feeding over 9,362 people. Their goal for 2025 is to surpass that record by providing more than 2,500 turkeys and hams to local families.

"We believe that every family should be able to share a Thanksgiving meal, no matter what challenges they may be facing," said Sabu J.R. Shake. "A turkey or ham may seem simple, but to a family in need, it represents hope, comfort, and a moment of togetherness. It's an honor to help make that possible, and we are grateful to every person who joins us in giving back."

Chris Shake adds, "Our community has always shown incredible heart. When people donate—even one turkey—they are directly touching the lives of their neighbors. It's amazing to see how generosity multiplies when we work together. Thank you to everyone who helps bring warmth and dignity to local families this Thanksgiving."

This year's turkey and ham donation program is sponsored by Restaurant Pacific Group, including The Fish Hopper Monterey, The Fish Hopper Kona, Old Fisherman's Grotto, Sabu J.R. Shake, and Chris Shake.
