July 1, 2026 Monterey, CA. Please save the date! Junipero Parlor 141, invites the community to enjoy a fascinating talk by Jean Anton on Monday, July 13th from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The presentation will be held at Casa Serrano, a beautiful historic adobe owned by the Monterey History & Art Association, located at 412 Pacific Street in Downtown Monterey.

The lecture will focus on "The History of the Chautauqua Movement and its Connection to Pacific Grove". In 1881 a large board and batten barn-like building was constructed at the corner of 16th and Grove Street in Pacific Grove. Learn how this building became part of a nationwide cultural movement and why PG was called the "Chautauqua of the West."

About Jean Anton

Jean Anton is a retired history and home ec teacher who has lived in Pacific Grove since 1968. She is the Chairperson of the Friends of Chautauqua Hall and is active in the Heritage Society of PG. She also serves as the Chairperson of the city's Historic Resources Committee.
