Mark Overgaard – The Eloquent Suri of Ethiopia: People, Art, Culture, Language, Dyke Gallery

With these visual and verbal stories, I celebrate the beauty and strength of Ethiopia’s eloquent Suri people.

The portraits are in color, highlighting the creativity of my portrait collaborators, the striking natural pigments and other adornments they use. Personal details from the collaborators enrich the portraits.

Illustrated stories in the Suri language provide engaging glimpses of Suri cultural traditions, celebrate recently defined written Suri, inspire support for Suri literacy initiatives.

The Signature Members paintings in the show are completed in plein air and are from anywhere in the world. Carol Tarzier, the esteemed artist from the Bay area will jury in the selected paintings and then judge the awards.
