The Jade Lounge was named after the plentiful Big Sur Jade found down the Central California Coast. About the Owner

Owner Mo El-Sherif brings decades of experience to his new venture, having worked most recently for 12 years performing throughout California in a surf roots reggae band, Animo Cruz. Mo also promoted shows Upstairs at the Catalyst and The Reef and Pono Hawaiian Grill in Santa Cruz. He has put tours together for bands throughout California and has toured the nation with Animo Cruz and on his own.

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, his family moved to the United Emirates. They moved to Philadelphia where he attended high school and Mo attended college in New York.  Starting when he was 16 years old, Mo played music in New York City while he attended college. Mo graduated from New York University in 2000, majoring in Music Business and also focusing on math and biology. He moved to Santa Cruz in 2000 and also earned an MA and teaching credential from the University of California at Santa Cruz. Mo was a teacher in Santa Cruz and La Honda.  Mo was also a real estate broker and is the proud father of a 5-year old daughter.

The mission of Mo’s band, Animo Cruz, which became one of Santa Cruz’s top Cali Reggae band, was driven by the desire to create great music that inspires and enlivens audiences, reminding us that music is here to help us all live life that much better every day – which is also why Mo  has opened The Jade Lounge to  become a fun and safe community oasis.

More About The Jade Lounge

According to Mo, “I want The Jade Lounge to be a gathering place for both locals in the community and visitors to Monterey County. We will provide great music, food, fun events and more in our 2500 square foot comfortable and casual venue. It will become the perfect hangout where all are welcome to relax and mingle with friends, both old and new.”

The Jade Lounge features a full bar and delicious lounge style barbecue, including BBQ tri tip, cheeseburgers, grilled chicken, panko shrimp, steak and chicken tacos and salads. Mo plans to open a breakfast and lunch café in the side room in the near future.

The Jade Lounge features many upcoming events including concerts with both local and touring acts, costume-themed parties, karaoke, comedy and more.  The Jade Lounge is posting upcoming shows on its website, www.thejadelounge.com.

Mo’s goal is to have The Jade Lounge be “the” go-to reggae and blues music destination on the Central Coast. It is the Official After Party Site and Presenting Sponsor of the 18th Annual Monterey Beer Festival and the After-Party Site for the Cali-Roots Festival and Monterey Bay Blues Festival, plus other events that will be held across the street at the Monterey County Fair & Event Center. Mo looks forward to working with additional non-profits for fundraiser events on site as he has already hosted a fundraiser for the wildfires in California that raised over $5000, a toy drive for the Monterey Boys and Girls Club, and a fundraiser for a local 104-year old woman.

The Jade Lounge is available for event buy outs and will soon offer full service customized entertainment, catering and a bar off site where the party comes to you. Mo explains, “We can handle any event production at a home or other party site.”
