The Shake Family to Host the Final Sabu’s Safari Event on October 1st

September 26, 2022. Monterey, CA. In 2008, two brothers, Sabu JR Shake. and Chris Shake, decided to host a Dinner Auction in their father’s memory to raise funds for The Salvation Army Monterey Peninsula Corps as part of the Sabu Shake Sr. Memorial Foundation.

The event “Sabu’s Safari” was such a huge success that it became an annual "sold out" event with over 300 guests in attendance.  Every year, the event features an incredible gourmet dining experience provided by the executive chefs of the Shake Family Restaurants, beautiful room décor and unique live auction items.

To date, Sabu’s Safari and other Shake family fundraisers have raised over $5.7 million for The Salvation Army Monterey Peninsula Corps. Over the years, these funds have helped with daily Hot Meals & Food Boxes, Showers, Laundry, Computers and Job Assistance at the Sabu Shake Sr. Good Samaritan Center which provides all the services for those in need that their Dad believed in.

On July 12, 2022, the Shake Family was honored with a dedication of the new street, Shake Avenue, located next to the Sabu Shake Sr Good Samaritan Center in Sand City.

In 2020, the event committee made the very difficult decision that the 15th Annual Sabu’s Safari, being held on October 1st, 2022 would be the final event.

Although the event is sold out, donations can still be made on the website www.SabusSafari.org or call (831) 645-9124.

According to Sabu JR Shake, “We are very grateful to the community for their support of the Salvation Army Monterey Peninsula Corps via the Sabu’s Safari dinners over the years. Every end is a new beginning. We hope that everyone will continue to donate to our fundraisers benefiting the Salvation Army so that they can continue their important work that helps so many in need.”
