Craft Brewing is still going strong! Here’s some background information and stats:
California is the birthplace of the American craft brewing movement and at the forefront of the industry’s growth. Today, more breweries call California home than any other state in the nation. As of January 2022, there are 1163 breweries in operation across the state.
CCBA’s brewery members and craft beer enthusiasts play an important role in supporting the economic engine in California. In 2020, craft breweries contributed $9.66 billion to the state’s economy. The industry supports more than 65,158 jobs across the state.
In April, 2022, the Brewers Association (BA)—the trade association representing small and independent1 American craft brewers—released annual production figures for the U.S. craft brewing industry. In 2021, small and independent brewers collectively produced 24.8 million barrels of beer and realized 8% growth, increasing craft’s overall beer market share by volume to 13.1%, up from 12.2% the previous year.
