ABOUT THE MONTEREY COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Founded in 1933, the Monterey County Historical Society (MCHS) has preserved and celebrated the diverse and dynamic history of the region for over 90 years. The Boronda Adobe, gifted to the Society in 1972 by Marguerite Wilson, is the oldest original Mexican Republic-era adobe in the county. It stands as a testament to the generosity and vision of the community.
Since its designation as California State Historic Landmark #870 in 1974, the site has expanded into a thriving historical campus. From early restorations to earthquake recovery efforts and landmark exhibits, the Society has served as a dedicated steward of local heritage. Archival vaults, schoolhouse tours, botanical gardens, and period recreations enrich each visit to this treasured Salinas landmark.
MCHS continues to thrive thanks to the contributions of passionate volunteers, supporters, and cultural collaborators—making events like Flower Songs & Flor y Canto possible.
“None of this would exist without the people who believed in preserving our past,” says Perry. “We welcome all to be a part of our continuing story.”
